My Brother's Looking to Quit His Job

My brother got a new job right after graduating college. He graduated in
May, and he got the job and started working 2 weeks upon graduating. He
was quite lucky to get a job right after graduating college. He has only
been there for a little less than 6 months, and he is looking to quit because
it's too far from where we live plus the kind of job he has you don't really
do anything. You just sit around and report something bad that happens
with the government. He is looking to quit and find another job. I think
that will make him look bad. When he applies to other companies, they are
going to want to know how long he was at his last job and why he left it.
If they know he was only there for 5.5 months, they are going to question
whether or not he will be able to keep a job long term. Some companies
may even have second thoughts on hiring him. What do you guys think
about this?

I think that he should've stayed for one more month but I can understand
why he thinks it's boring. I don't blame him. yes, they might question him but
if it's a job he likes, then he'll keep it longer don't you think?

If you're paying for him, it's your business whether he quits or not. If he's fending for himself, not your problem.

He should find a new job first, then quit.
It is best to look for work while you are working all around.

Yes he is looking for jobs and I think he's going to stay until he finds
something else.

It is always the smart move.
When interviewing, if you say you are working, they can ask you about your work, and why you wish to change.
It give you work ethic.
Next, if you keep what you have, you are less under pressure.
He'll probably do it that way. About 95% of jobs have to be applied for online anyway, so this is easy.

Toughest thing in that situation is taking time off work for interviews, unless you've been with your employer long enough to have vacation hours backed up. It'll get done, one way or another.

You've got sick days, lunch.
If you tell another job you have a job, much can be done to help if you are a good prospect. Even phone interviews.
If you get the second, it is worth a half day.

He has some vacation time he has like 23 hours. He said though when he
goes for an interview for another job on Thursday, he's just going to tell his
current boss that he has a doctor's appointment or something because he
said it wouldn't look good if he is telling his boss he is looking for another job.

Correct. If he's got time off, he doesn't have to say anything about why he's not going to be there.
